it really is totally random guys... the DMV clerks aren't well informed but you can't challenge them because they know they can....

first trip, i went to Wayne (don't go there if you have a choice) I thought the I-797 could be the 4-pt, the lady told me no and when I said the pamphlet stated i could use it... she said, "you work here or i work here?" but that trip she counted my college ID w/ transcript (i graduated 2007) but she did the math wrong and only counted it as 1 pt.

the trip i had today, the clerk at the entrance said my college ID w/ transcript isn't within the last 2 years so she said no for that.... i was very polite to her maybe that had something to do with her counting my points as 6 instead of 5.... but then at the real counter inside, the lady recounted it and i showed her the college ID w/ transcript and she accepted it.

i wonder if i can use the NJ state ID i got today now as a 4 points now... but it's only listed under for citizens... well, the non-citizen category has a small writing saying there are other acceptable documents maybe that can be it?

anyway, try other DMV if you run into problems with the clerks and check the DMV location on the manual because not all DMVs offer written test and road test, the jersey city one doesn't have road test.

but steve above showed us the light! take a trip to egg harbor and then celebrate at atlantic city! >

PS: i have to say... the 6-point verification makes NJ new narrrrsey.... jk!

This thread has me nervous. I'm going tomorrow (or later today I should say) to Randolph and I'm taking my Notice of Action, EAD+ SNN and ATM card. According to their website that's 6 points but after reading this I'm no longer confident. Ugh this sucks, wish me luck guys

hi dmdreaming, don't worry. just stay calm! let me know how they took the I-797 though, would be great if the clerks didn't just disregard it like they did to me. i know being in the shadow for so long on some level we still think we're "illegal" (lol, i know i feel like that still), but we are legal now even with a temp status!

Exactly stay calm and ask to speak to a supervisor if you believe the clerk helping you is wrong.

BTW I went to Eatontown one and they were friendly. I submitted EAD, 'not valid for work' SSN card, college transcript with student ID (also used this to prove nj address), debit card, (graduate school diploma and bank statements as extra)

i dont know if this is true for every dmv but if you go to north bergen then apply for state id first and then driver's permit on other day. if you get permit first then you will have to surrender your permit if you want state id. that's what i was told.
