They don't take the printout that says you applied for a SSN (I tried that 2 weeks earlier and got turned away). But once your number has been generated you can get a printout and they can use that. So with the SSN printout and the EAD I got the permit. And no, I've never had a license before.

Well, the thing is I could have done the license right then and there. But I chose not to because my family wants me to do some driving lessons first. So I got the permit. The only thing is that they initially issue you a non-picture paper permit until the actual card comes in the mail, and they don't allow you to take the driving test until you get the card. That could take up to a month (they say they need to verify your documents with DHS). I hope it comes sooner though. So if you want you could go straight for the DL but that's the same process and you still have to wait for them to send you the physical card.

Those of you who got your license in NJ, what documents did you use? Especially those of you who aren't in school right now. Because I tried doing the 6 point ID for a family member and without a school ID they don't get the 6 points.

Nevada accepts the EAD as Proof of Identity. I went today to take the Drivers Permit. (I do not have a social yet, I will get apply for one on Monday).

You can get: ID and Drivers Permit with just the EAD and something that proves your residence (Address).

When the Drivers Permit arrives in the mail (actual card), you can schedule an appointment online for a Drivers Test. By the time you are ready to take the Drivers Test, you must have the Social Security Card.

I live in New York and went to a DMV office in Lower Manhattan the day I got the SSN print out.
I immediately told the person that was helping me that I received a SSN print out this morning along with a letter saying I'm going to get my card within 2 weeks (receipt letter).
She told me no transaction can be process without a Social Security Card if it's the first time getting an ID, Learner Permit, or Driver License.

Just a heads up for anyone in Illinois. Five year driver licenses are given to us and they are indistinguishable from any regular driver license. Just got mine was in and out in an hour
