Of course you've met women who "hate" feminist. That's because of all the misunderstanding and the stigma attached to the word feminism. I used to be one of them!! I didn't hate feminist, but I just didn't believe in feminism. I didn't believe we still needed feminism, but I was naive in stupid. As I grew up I started to notice all the injustice, lack of equality, and I learned about THE REAL definition of feminism.
In this day and age, the feminist movement is about as useful and credible as DA Users predictions.

Yeah, say that to all the little afghan girls who have to dress up as boys to be able to attend school or work to help support their families. Or to all the African girls who get mutilated every single year. Or to the pregnant indigenous girls, who according to the a politician in the state of Chiapas Mexico, should be ASHAMED of themselves just because they want to keep studying while pregnant.

You can't even leave the country.. When you go to Afghanistan and start rallying for women's rights then come talk to me... I'm talking about the United States and so is everyone in here.. Why are you bringing up different countries...

I thought we were talking in context of first worlds such as the USA. I do agree that women absolutely do not have equal rights or opportunities in a lot of other countries. I still call BS on feminism in countries such as the USA in the modern world.

@Happyman0607: Me going to Afghanistan? Of course I would never go there. I would just get killed the minute I start talking about women's rights. Or maybe acid will be thrown at my face? Oh no wait, that happens to little girls who want to attend school. In Afghanistan men like this girl's father are needed, not much can be accomplished without the help of men.

@happymano607 and @Rev_Scholar

My main point here was to demystify what feminism means because this thread is really full of ignorance. It's not a complex subject at all. But it has been stigmatized.
I keep bringing up different countries because people from this forum are from different countries!!! But of course we can also talk about the challenges women face in this country too.

Haven't you heard about what happens to American women in the military? From an article, "In Iraq, women serving in the military are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire." (http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2...fellow-soldier) Haven't you heard about the violence against women in the U.S? What about abortion rights?? Haven't you heard about the concept "culture of rape"? This is a huuuuge problem in the United States.
You can read more about it here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/julia-...b_3368577.html
What about the degradation of women in the media ? and how they are objectified?
Haven't you heard about the wage gap between women and men?? you can read more about it here:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_3038806.html

I could just go on and on about the struggles women face every single day in pretty much every country in the world. The only country where women are almost as equal as men is SWEDEN.

There's something wrong in a society where you teach women how not to get raped, or when you blame the victim. How many times have we heard, "I hit her because she 'provoked' me." "If she didn't want to get raped why was she wearing that skirt?" "She was asking for it." Have we all forgotten the case about how this girl was gang-raped and many people in the media started talking about how sorry they all felt for the boys because now their future was gonna be destroyed? That was months ago, WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIM? Was her life less important? Was her life not gonna be destroyed?

Once again, this is not about putting men down, blaming men, men also suffer in this patriarchal society. Feminism is about women achieving equality and justice.

to the original poster, Im sure you are regretting asking this question due to the high number of ignorant undocumented people on this forum. I encourage you to seek them out because the vast majority of undocumented people who are advocating for undocumented people rights support feminism. How do i know? I dont sit all day on the forum like 99% of the people who have negative things to say about the topic your brought up, while missing out on face to face interactions with people who are organizing our communities. The majority of radical undocumented activists are located in the major cities, SF, LA, Chicago, Border Cities, Portland, NY. so if you dont live in a big city you might not encounter them. Rest assured that feminism in the undocumented struggle is present and strong.
