A quick question, are there any prerequisites ones should have before applying for a credit card?

Other than having good-enough credit for whatever card you are applying to.

Welp, got my card today. $2000 limit for some reason.

It frightens me how little information I needed to provide to get this.

How long do you think it will take me to max this out?

I actually applied to Discover again and was approved. I was also approved to Blue from American Express and a TJX Rewards MasterCard.
My older brother who has no credit history applied to the CapitalOne Newcomer Card after I did and was approved with a $300 CL (you have to start somewhere).

My advice to everyone: BE SMART! Never spend more than you can pay back. NEVER miss a payment, at least pay the minimum balance!

I started with a Bank of Americard with a $900 CL, 3 days after I turned 18 (only using my ITIN) and now, almost 2 years later, I have 6 credit cards under my name

Great thread. I have a question for the Credit card utilization rate. Most of you said do not go over 25~30% of my spending limit. But does that mean monthly? Lets say throughout the month I use 20% of my limit and pay the 20% in full right away for my first week. Then on week 2 of the same month I use 20% and pay 20% back the next day. I do the same for Week 3 and 4 of the same month. Will that raise my credit score quicker or is it the same thing as using 20% of the limit only one time for the month?

Anybody apply for the Wells Fargo secured card? I like that it's possible to increase the limit by depositing cash up to 10k... Thoughts? I really don't want to open a checking or savings account. Just want to build credit and not change or cancel the card for a loooong time.

That's what I wanted to understand. I think I may have read this somewhere. Anyone?
