They only get to find out you have a work permit once they have made you an offer and you have accepted it, so basically after they hire you. Once they hire you, they tell you to bring the social and that's when you bring in your work permit. HR takes care of that or whoever but its not their business to ask that. You can legally work in the US and that is all that matters to them. Work permits are always only for 2 years anyway.
