Obama: a failure on every level.

Hopefully this new proposition that Arizona wants to pass to deny citizenship to babies born here from undocumented workers passes very soon, as it will bring immigration into the spotlight again. We had it for a bit, but lost it to the oil spill.

Democratic party failure! Can't do it in the minority, can't do it with a majority. Instead of just dealing with the issue and removing it from the political fodder that allows Republicans to continue to use it to roadblock progressive legislation in this country like healthcare, the Dems just give in and allow the hate and misinformation to fester.
I just read a headline on MSNBC.com quoting the president in regards to the oil spill: "The one approach I will not accept is inaction".

Oh, the irony.

Wow. What a disappointment. Dems are selfish assholes. They just talk and talk and talk and nothing Obama cannot put pressure on Congress to act, or he might just don't want to. I think the latter. Shit, Dream Act is great bill. Win-win for everyone. Even some Republicans support it. Republicans do shit, at least. Good or bad but they DO IT. Bush did shit he thought was right. Right or wrong but he did it anyway. Dems are spineless. Sorry for ranting but when they say they will not halt students deportations, it gets overboard. Fuck

The bipartisan duo sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in April asking the agency to grant “deferred action” for Dream Act eligible students and outlined precedent for doing so under existing law. An administration official says the White House is still working on a response to the letter.

Letter sent in April. Today is middle of June. No response yet. What the fuck? What the hell do they do there? Slapping each other with hot mops? Jerking fax machines off? Three months to answer the letter?

Deferred action would have been great because we would have been able to apply for work and travel authorization.
Quote:
Once granted deferred action, the applicant is also eligible to apply for employment authorization (filed on Form I-765) and travel authorization (filed on Form I-131).

Deferred action does not eliminate any period of unlawful presence that accrued before it was granted; it does not convey or imply any waivers of inadmissibility that may exist; and it does not confer or alter any immigration status. However, deferred action does allow the applicant to remain in the United States for two years under this program

Erhm... don't blame the oil spill. The oil spill should take priority: it's an environmental disaster that is actively destroying people's lives on the southern coast of the USA. It is also causing damage to the world's ocean.

If DHS says that they determine each case on an ad hoc basis, then what would one need to qualify for deferred action. Right now I am in removal proceedings because of a family petition being denied so I was wondering if this would pertain to me.

It could definitely apply to you. Currently, deferred action "is granted on an ad hoc basis in a way that is increasing perceived as given only to people who are able to get a powerful Senator as a champion or launch massive social media campaigns. Most students are unable to do either." So get congress's support or get all of your friends to start a huge media campaign. You need perseverance, motivation and a large network of friends and family willing to help out. Contact DREAM Activist.

Would a congressman work or does it only apply to a senator? I live in southern california and recently wrote my representative regarding my case. My family was screwed over by a bad lawyer so we believe we are completely innocent. We have 245i but the lawyer told us that immigration judges do not have sympathy on cases and only determine based on hardship for a related us citizen, which is extremely hard to win.
