Just an update.....I got my IELTS results back:
8.5/9 listening
8/9 reading
8.5/9 speaking
6.5/9 writing ; I'm almost sure it was because of shitty hand writing and/or my indiscriminate use of semicolons. I actually lol'd on this one; I'm always the assigned paper writer in college groups.

Australia wants 8's for every single section, so I failed (even w/an overall score of 8 ). Minor road block i guess.

FWIW; someone else i know also failed....it seems like this test is not one to be underestimated...even though I thought it was easy as hell.

Wow!! very impressive. congrats. just work harder and practice more on writing. i was all ready to take the exam too. i even bought two practice workbooks. but i'm now returning them, since i need one year of skilled employment just for immigration to even look at my application. i was kind of sad. have you heard/found any solution for this?

Yeah, I second Chessmaster05's comment. You did very well because I was actually looking up stats about the test scores and getting over an 8 is not easy. Many times they had 0-15% of all the test takers getting a 8+ The average is 6.5. You will do well the next time because at least you are familiar with the test.

Now we just have to see if there is a way around this one yr work experience. I am just having a hard time finding a lawyer who does Australian immigration.

i've got an idea, but it's not pretty.

thanks for the cheer up, just looking at these stats:
http://www.ielts.org/researchers/ana...test_data.aspx

seems like we gotta get up there in the 1-2% to get all sections above 8. Considering I didn't even look at what the test was about and was drinking the day prior and having insomnia; I guess there is something to be learned from this. On the plus side (like i was telling this other chick); the candidate pool becomes that much smaller from people chickening out after their first try.

I was just looking at my scores...I got a 7.5 in reading and an 8 or higher on the other stuff...it's enough for what I need in canada but it is a little worrying since english is all I really know...maybe I was tired haha or maybe I don't know how to read anymore
