Cmon dude. 27 days and you didn't study?
When I was waiting for the EAD I was studying for the SSN, when I was waiting for the SSN I was studying for my DL..

It seems like 1 out of 50 get caught up on this Verification with DHS waiting period. I have 2 siblings which were verified on the spot and had applied for SSN before the 10 days. Ill keep the blog posted on my status. Hopefully I can get a printout before month end.

So I called my location today and found out my app. was still pending but found out another tidbit of information, that the Initial Verification was sent out Oct. 5, which was 7 days from the date my EAD was issued and then never after that. So I brought up the POMS that I found on this forum a couple of weeks ago (https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0110213305) and reminded her that another IV could have been send Oct. 9th but wasn't, and that may be why my app has been waiting for some time. She said she'd let the person who handles "that type of workload" know about my application and ask him to follow up on it.
^So that was yesterday. I went in today with the procedures printed from that link, my receipt that said 4 weeks, my birth certificate, and my EAD. The person who called me up actually happened to be the lady that I spoke with yesterday, so that made things much easier because I didn't have to explain my situation again. She pulled up my information on the screen using the reference number and said, "After I spoke with you yesterday, I passed your information onto that gentleman and when he has time, he will do a follow up. That might have been this morning, that might be later today, or maybe even tomorrow, but he'll get into it." But I wasn't satisfied knowing that, especially knowing after reading the link that they could have sent another IV. So I read the procedures to her and asked her why another IV had not been sent after Oct. 8, which was my 10-day mark. She said, "Because on your receipt, it says it may take up to 4 weeks for your information to be verified by DHS, and we wait that time before submitting another verification." To that I replied that waiting was unnecessary because the procedures explicitly allowed them to submit another initial verification after the 10 days. I also explained that if they did it, I would be verified on the spot because it is way past the 10-day mark. It was frustrating because she agreed with everything I said and then STILL said, "We wait those 4 weeks." It's like, were you not listening to me the entire time right now? You don't need to wait those 4 weeks. So I kept repeating my point and she kept bringing up the 4 weeks until I just asked for a supervisor. She seemed really hesitant to the idea and kept saying that the supervisor would simply repeat what she had said to me. I replied, "To be honest, I've walked over here (the office is a mile from my house) and I don't really plan on leaving this office until I have a concrete answer about the status of my application." So she said that I could wait for the gentleman who had been told about my application yesterday, and I agreed. We spent a few minutes in silence. The entire time, she was typing on the computer, and I still don't know whether she was working on my application, doing other SSA work, or uploading her Facebook status. All I know is that she suddenly picked up my receipt, typed some information in, and said, "Oh you were verified today. Looking at the timeline, you should have your number by Friday." I asked if the number could be available tomorrow and she said it may be but it's not guaranteed. She did say that I could get a printout whenever it was available, which is good because that's one less battle to fight.

So pretty much I have no idea what the hell happened in there. All I know is that I'm getting my number tomorrow or Friday (I'm guessing/hoping tomorrow!) I have no idea if it's because the gentleman did a follow-up (which according to the lady who helped me is different from an Initial Verification or Additional Verification, I don't know how and I don't know if I even believe her) earlier that day, if she did another IV during our moments of silence (because i'm wondering why she hadn't mentioned the verification at the beginning of our conversation), if she was chatting with the gentleman on the computer and he led her through a follow-up, or if by luck my application was just approved on the day I was going to go in.

The lady was relatively nice. At one point she told me that it would have been easier if they had just told me to wait the ten days and then come in because I would have had my number by now. I was being as nice as possible and I never raised my voice or said anything rude, but it was very evident that she was annoyed by me just by virtue of the fact that I was raising questions and seemed well-versed enough in their procedures to not want to leave without a specific answer. She seemed to get flustered at times and acted like I was asking repetitive questions, but I was only doing that because she was giving me the same rehearsed answers.

So as a lesson to anyone still waiting: DON'T! I already regret waiting more than 2 weeks. Call, go in, find out what's up. She was telling me that she had a list of pending applications that were anywhere from 40 to 90 days, and my wait was relatively short. I don't know what the deal is with those people, but call and go in, and do so armed with knowledge! Educate yourselves beforehand; there are some very good sources on SSA stuff here (examples being Mr. Dick and NotAPro). You need to show that you are persistent, knowledgeable, and won't take the first answer they give you and turn back around. For a while I was calling offices other than mine because the people working at my office seemed mean, but I decided to grow a backbone and talked to them and pressed for answers. Obviously I don't regret it! Hopefully my SSN really does come through soon! I have a DMV appointment Friday!

I went in today, exactly a week after my approval and was verified on the spot. I was given a receipt that stated I should receive my new card within two weeks.

This what I mean, useless desk jockeys.
I'm going in tomorrow to ask about this.

Just printed two copies out, ready to hand these puppies out and teach these mother*******s a lesson.
