I'm personally looking at secured credit cards. It's pretty much a guaranteed approval, and a sure way to build credit. Just pay off the bill in full every month, cause the interest rate is HIGH.

I was able to get a Citibank student credit card, unsecured. Applied when I got my SSN and was approved for $1,000.

Really? I applied for a card with Citi, but they rejected me telling me that only legal permanent residents can get one with them. In any case, I was approved for a Discover student card and a CapitalOne student card.

Really? I applied over the phone for their Citi Dividend Platinum Select Visa Card for College Students and was never prompted for immigration status. On the online application I do see that question, but I called in because the website kept asking for my school information but was not allowing me to input it. I was also approved for the Discover card and opted to keep both, one for daily use and one for emergency purposes.

Discover Card service is absolutely amazing I used it properly for first six months. Asked them for a credit limit increase, they simply asked me how much of an increase I wanted and I was forwarded to a credit analyst and he just asked me why I want the increase. He saw my history and increased it immediately to what I asked for. Capital One is one cheap company in comparison.

So no banks will be able to provide us a credit card as of now? I applied for BOA credit card last week and it got rejected.. But what I'm worried about is that one of the reasons I got denied was INVALID SSN wtf? And another was lack of history under my name which is understandable but seriously has this happen to anyone else.. ANYONE?
