I applied for my SSN back in 10/18/12. originally I was told 3-4 weeks since there was a pending verification w immigration. It's been 6 weeks since I applied. I called the ss office this morning and the lady who answered said it had been to long and that she was going to double check w/ her supervisor. After being on hold for 15mins I was told I needed to go in and apply again !!! I was told to bring in my work permit, valid ID, birth cert and application. I will go tomorrow since I am at work today. I just feel aggravated at the fact that I was given the run around for six weeks!!!

That's crazy!!!!!! Almost same thing was going to happen to me. My ead was issued 10/24 I applied for ssn on 10/30. I was told that I couldnt be verified and that it would take weeks to verify me because they had to send copies of my info to dhs. All of my attempts to check on the status were in vain, as none of the ssa workers would give me straight answers, they just kept telling me it could take up to 8 weeks. So on 11/21 I decided to try my luck and I went to sso filled out a new social security application waited in line and when they called my number I handed them my ead, passport and ss application. I knew I had applied already but I decided to apply again figuring that a few weeks had already passed and that I was most likely in the save system. The ssa worker proceeded to question my regarding the usual questions that they ask (food stamps, when I entered USA etc) when he asked if I had applied for ssn before I told him yes about a month ago but I wasn't in the system and they told me that I could check back in a week. He went to the back for a couple of minutes and then came back and told me that i would be receiving a receip in the mail in two days and my ssc in the mail in one week. He returned my documents and I asked him again to double check and he said yes you'll have your ssc next Friday. I thanked him and left. Now obviously the next day was thanksgiving so the ssa was closed till this Monday so if what he said is true I should get receipt by mail any day now and card a few days later. I honestly am not getting my hopes up too much because after getting so many diff answers from ssa workers but no real help I can't really trust them. Anyhow i will let you all know what happens.

Ok, extremely confused by some of the info in the past few pages. WHY would i put other or unknown under Parents socials if they have socials?
And I went before my "10 days"... Yes they told me it hasnt been 10 days so my app cant be put in, but lady i dealt with, said she will send it in for me on friday (my day 11 technically), just so i dont have to come in again... Then i'll get this "printout" in the mail next week, w/ or w/o a possible number. Physical card not till 2-4 weeks.
Anything wrong or couldve been better with my scenario??

I just could not wait til tomorrow, I just got out of the SS office in North Riverside IL and I was told my info was all ready in the system. Immigration info was finally verified. Now I have to wait an additional two weeks for my SS card.

I was wondering if anyone had the same experience as me. I applied for my ssn last Wednesday and the guy only asked for my ead, passport, and mailing address. I didn't have to fill out the form and literally it took 5 minutes since the moment I sat down to when I got a receipt saying I should get my social in 2 weeks. The process seemed too simple especially when some people were questioned and interviewed.

He probably meant you just couldnt get one YET. Try to go and pretend like you haven't been told no.

No, you're fine. I asked the security guard which one to press and that's the one he told me to. Bot like it really matters now. That's just so the right representative can help you.*
