You shouldn't either. and if that means affording a county college, more power to you but please don't spread pessimism especially if med school is the least of your concerns.
I agree with you 100%. I knew when I started pursuing nursing that I would probably never be able to get into a program or licensed because of my status but I was determined to get there. Now, because of DACA I am able to....I never saw it coming. Keep up the hard work and let me know when you become a doctor so I can tell everyone that I know a Dreamer who became a doctor I wish you the best of luck!!

What about Dental School?

Do you need to be a perm. resident?

You're welcome! I'm glad you are interested. If you are pursuing Nursing as well... or Dental...you should consider getting connected too.

I am applying as well!! I am in California....what has your experience been like? What have been your obstacles? Did you apply as international?

For everyone that is here, I would like to tell you about this group called Pre-Health Dreamers... it's started by a few DREAMers and is meant to be a community, resource, and network for every undocumented student pursuing careers in health and science (nursing, medicine, public health, research, etc.). If you or you know someone who is interested/would benefit, sign up to their list serve here : www.tinyurl.com/ab540med!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are already about 200 members nationwide.. even some med students and nurses!
My experience has been insane...to say the least.

I went to a tier 1 public university in Texas, got everything paid for cuz I graduated Valedictorian of my HS class...I got two bachelor degrees and then I pursued a masters in public health...I am now interviewing for medical school....

I did NOT apply as an international because the Texas med school app system classified me as "Texas Resident". I obviously need my DACA approved by next summer so I can apply to the FAFSA..and matriculate in med skewl if accepted. NOTE: i only applied to TX schools

For those of you who are SERIOUSLY considering a career in health or public health, it is VERY possible...I am ONE degree away (MD) to finally become the public health professional I aspire to be...and Ive done it all as a Dreamer with the grace and many blessings from the Lord OUR savior!!!!

If you have any questions, inbox me...

In Texas at least, you CAN receive an acceptance without a social security number....

However, to MATRICULATE for classes, you must show that you have an SSN through a student visa OR permanent residency.

I'm assuming Dental schools function similarly to medical schools in that they really wont extend an acceptance unless they know for sure that you can 1) matriculate and 2) finance your education and 3) gain entry to a residency (for medical students), which requires an SSN to be able to work.....
