Maybe yall should look for that website where it has the Guidelines for florida residency for tuition purposes. I remember it said in section 2.4 that deferred action status qualifies. So when you go to the college you want to apply to, tell them about that if they say you don't qualify

I am assuming you guys ( X Tunax and Pre 1234) are talking about valencia College and Idk why they told you guys that they couldn't accept you because I also applied to valencia College before DACA was even announced. They told me they accept everyone. I Finished my first semester wednesday! The thing that sucks is that I pay out of State tuition.

Hey guys! So some more info on Miami - Dade College. Today I went to two of their campuses trying to find some answers. After practically talking to every department -which took me from Admissions, to New Students to International Students and then financial aid. They all pretty much told me the same thing: "You're parents are not residents, and since you are a dependent student you don't qualify for in state tuition. Even if you have DACA. "
Almost at the end of my visits, one of the financial aid ladies told me (in a whisper) that if I would get a letter from my boss stating that I have been working there for a year, my high school diploma( or proof that I graduated on June 2012), and something she attempted to explain to me about taxes for an $11,000 yearly wage, which I wasn't too clear on, before January 8- I could possibly start the semester paying in-state tuition.
I'm not entirely convinced, I have so many questions and feel like no one is capable of answering them.
And is this
http://diverseeducation.com/article/49221/
just a buch of BS?
Adding to that, that same lady said I could qualify for the American Dream Scholarship which covers the full in-state tuition which is 1300 less the 5300 semesterly bill.
Butttttt.... if you claim to be out-of state you won't be able to change that status for some years, it's what she continued telling me.
I don't feel that was the end of this. I mean it just really amazes me that a community college claiming to be so culturally diverse and proud of their support towards illegal immigrants would make it so difficult to find any financial support. Everytime I asked about any special programs/scholarships anything to help all I got were shrugged shouldes and headshakes.
Hopefully this will somehow help someone. or Maybe someone could help me?
My second plan is talking to FIU. I definitely want to advance my education, and don't entirely see why I can't do it in a cheaper way, especially when I've been qualifying for so many different aids since HS.
I'm going to keep on attempting to communicate with them and keep you updated

Thank you so much for keeping us posted on what you find . I also remember being sent to so many people trying to figure out my options (before DACA) and some people were able to tell me some things and some nothing at all .. it gets frustrating so I really hope we find a knowledgeable person that truly knows the answer to this. I emailed the SWER organization and they told me the following :

Im very glad you are contacting us. It all depends on the institution. MDC will offer In-state to those whose parents already have a status, before even Deferred Action. In other case students may have to wait a year to get in-state. During the spring (next semester) they will introduce the Florida Dream Act, which will allow us to get In-state tuition for everyone. We will be fighting for it to make sure we all have the opportunity to go to school. If you want to join us let me know. We really need help.

.. Now i know that with the help of the right people that know the ways of getting around it such as the financial ladies you mentioned it is possible to get in state tuition. I will also keep you guys posted on what I find.

Hey guys

I am currently attending MDC and have been paying out of state tuition 2 classes at a time for a while. I just got approved for DACA . I wonder how the process is for instate tuition. I have my EAD, but my fathers EAD expired a couple of months ago so did his drivers license, he already sent in for a new one and did biometics... class starts on May 13... It would be a bummer not to be able to attend and I won't meet the deadlines to attend FIU this short notice.

If anyone has gotten instate tuition at MDC, please explain how you did it and what you encountered.

I don't understand what they mean by Florida residency and how that pertains to my Lawful Status. DACA grants us Lawful presence(Not Status) in the USA along with a work permit. It says DACA is irrelevant to proving florida residency for tuition purposes. Florida residency is established by our long you or your parents have been in the state.

In any case, Still looking for someone who has dealt with MDC and gotten instate tuition.
