Um..

So I have my own BankAmercard Platinum card with Bank of America and I'm also an authorized user on a Barclays card (used to buy a Macbook for college; it's paid in full).
I've been trying to get another card that's 100% mine but I've been denied everywhere (Discover, Chase, Citibank, even CapitalOne iself).

I tried applying for this New Comer card and I actually got approved with a $1,000 credit limit just now! Thanks for your recommendation

I just applied for a credit card from Bank of America. I asked if there was any sort of monthly charge for having the card and the answer was no. Later on I realize there is a 39$ annual fee that was never mentioned. I don't mind paying that amount if the card is worth it, however I'm not sure if it's really worth it while I read on here that some other banks offer it for free.

I will appreciate any input from you guys regarding credit cards i.e. which card do you recommend? pros and cons between choosing a card over another?

thanks!!

You can always call and ask to have the fee removed. Be firm about it and say you weren't told of the fee. If you push enough they usually cave.

If you're a student I highly recommend the Discover It credit card. It's a cash back card, and I've read many people have been approved with no history. The turning point between approved and declined may be how much you put down as income. If you put zero AND have no credit history banks have to decide if they're going to take the risk. My brother had no credit history, and he was approved for $600CL for the Discover It card.

There's also the capital one credit card. I started with this card and it has the lowest credit limit because capone is stingy like that. It's a good way to build history though. I applied for a citi forward card 2 months later and was approved for $1400.

Don't app app app though. Every time you apply for a credit card your score takes a hit and on top of that you have a thin file.

Okay..now stick with that card and stop applying for credit cards. Every time you apply for a card, your credit report takes a hard hit which takes your credit score down a few points. That hard inquiry doesn't come off your report for 2 years so be careful. Its no big deal but too many hard inquiries don't look good.

I got rejected for that Capital One card because they said my income was too low. I had only been working since January. Should I have annualized my income or something?

Right now I'm just thinking of getting a secured Wells Fargo credit card.

So i will not exceed 50% of my credit limit and i will just pay the balance 3 or 5 days before the due date. That should be sufficient.

I asked about a credit card when I opened my acct on Friday and the guy told me to come back in a few months since I just deposited my first paycheck. But I'm kind of nervous cuz he said it'll be hard for me to get one since I'm not a student. I hope I can get a secured one or something!

Nice!

Thanks for the tip - I've been trying to find a card that'll let me apply without doing the whole secured credit thing (as I am morally opposed to paying money to use my own money!) Shitty thing is that USAA (who I bank with) won't give me a card even though they get monthly deposits from my work and can see that I make moneys ;(

i made the stupid mistake to go for the capital one card. ill get 0 apr for a year with the $39 annual fee after that its goes up to 19.8 apr thats high. little did i know i had better options from bank of america since ive had a bank account with them for a while now. had i gone with bank of america i would have gotten no annual fee and after a year of 0 apr it would go to anywhere from 12 to 22 depending on credit worthiness. so now im stuck with a card i dont want grrr don't go for the capital one offer check with your bank first. ill probably cancel it before the apr changes
