I renewed my California DL (the non-real ID one) online. It's still good for domestic travel until 2020, so I'll apply for the real ID closer to 2020.

Your Real ID will actually ezpire when your EAD expires. Birthday one is not valid for temp visitor C33.

How long did you received your ID? It's been 3 weeks now and i just called dmv and they said they are checking my legal presence. (I gave them my GC) and It might take 2wks to 2months. I didn't know it will take this long to get the real id. My DL already expired and im using the temporary one.

I renewed my license for the real ID and my work permit expires July 2019 but my license expires January 2023 on my bday so total of 5 years.

I am not debating getting the Real ID now. I live in NYC and my License exp 2025, but if by all the accounts that I've read that the exp date on it is the date our EAD exp. I don't know that I would want it.

And I don't know that it would be safe to travel with my passport from a diff country and my reg licence in 2020 since we are not there yet.

Is anyone from NYC and has received it? Are people having this same debate about getting it?

Here in NC drivers license has always been until your EAD expiry date.

Getting the REALID here is a no brainer, you already qualify. Plus you can use it to board planes.
