We have enough support for the DREAM Act.

The issue is the border. All our troubles hang on the monkeying around on the border issue. Namely no consensus on what constitutes a secure border, no way to measure how secure the border is, no way to assess how realistic plans are goals are to secure the border.

The border is the issue. We need to grab these republicans by the collar and drag them to the table so they can take some responsibility to make border security more than a catchphrase.

We also need to grab some of the hardcore CIR holdouts who are rejecting border security and get them to be real.

The issue is no more about the DREAM Act.

It's the border.
I agree with you on the first few points, their needs to be an agreement on what a secure border is, both sides need to come to the table and they both have to give up something. One side has to give up a path to legalization that should include citizenship, and the other should give up on more funds to secure the border and a fine for everyone who is in the country illegally.

What I dont't agree with is doing everything in parts, some have mentioned the 10 point startegy first and then CIR. Ok that's fine but what happens afterwards? Republicans won't want to negotiate, look at what happen with the 600 million bill that was passed to secure the border and still no movement on either CIR OR DA. I believe if anything is done it needs to be passed in one bill that includes, securing the border and a path to legalization at the same time, only when this happens will we know that they are seriously trying to pass something.

The border will never be secure enough!

The only possible scenarios that might play out are:

A. E-verify implemented + some sort of DA and heavy fines on hiring undocumented people.
B. DA passed, military mandatory plus they'll be sent to patrol the border
C. They keep playing the fence card so farms can ship people in for seasons and produce prices are kept low, foreign governments bribed and globalization continues. sigh... :/

The ATF has been arming drug lords. Do you need more proof that everyone is being played with the "secure border card"?!

The border issue is a myth.

It will never be secure unless there's a militia covering every inch of the border [E,S,N,W] AND the USA becomes an island and breaks off from Mexico and Canada.

It's never going to happen. It's most likely that Mexico and Canada get annexed and that is still far fetched.
It is a myth, but It would be really cool if mexico and canada were annexed and gave everyone US citizenship.

It's really not the border. I remember reading somewhere that more than half of all undocumented immigrants simply overstayed their visas, and this was before they tightened border security. If Republicans truly had their way this country would look a lot like Nazi Germany.

There is another legit issue: the Dream Act is a "political football."
Another great reason to oppose the DA, isn't it? How will you solve this issue?

The DA does not depend on Kyle and McCain. Even with 60 Republicans the DA faces an even tougher fight in Congress. I don't think a majority of Republicans will ever vote for the DA or CIR simply due to the fact that the people that voted for them do not want any type of bill like DA or CIR to pass - ever. I don't know any solution though other than a Democratic supermajority which doesn't seem to be in the cards for 2012.
