When I first started working I made less than 10K and had to file them separately. but I believe I was still put as a dependent.

Regardless, filling your taxes will only benefit you.

Well I'm not sure what to tell you about the MIT situation... the website was updated just a couple months ago... Updated on Friday 13 March 2009.

Maybe it just has to do with how much you "beg"...

I really think you have a shot at getting a merit scholarship. You have great grades, EC's, and if you have a kick ass essay then I think you'll be all set.
